Dutch pianist & composer Jochem le Cointre is featured in a solo recital playing works by Scarlatti, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Yedidia and Le Cointre. Mr. Le Cointre is a former student of Dr. Ronn Yedidia at NYPA and a graduate of The New School (May, 2016).

About the Artist
Pianist & Composer Jochem le Cointre (born 1994 in the Netherlands) began his musical journey at an early age through the records of his uncle and lessons at the local music school in his hometown Leeuwarden. Shortly after - he started winning prizes in jazz and classical competitions such as the Prinses Christina Concours (PCC) in 2006 and 2008, and the Parnas Concours. He continued his studies at the young talent class of the Groningen and Zwolle Conservatory, while completing his high school diploma. After the Veneto Jazz Summer School in 2011 he was awarded a scholarship to study at the New School for Jazz in New York. He moved there in 2012 with further support from the Dutch VandenEnde Foundation and Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds among others. During his four year bachelor course at the New School he also studied classical piano and composition with Dr. Ronn Yedidia at the New York Piano Academy. Le Cointre performed in jazz clubs and special events throughout his New York years, including commissions for compositions and arrangements performed at the School’s Graduation Commencement in Madison Square Garden in 2014. As his thesis project (May, 2016) Jochem composed the music, wrote the libretto, produced and staged his first opera “Steppenwolf - a musical retelling” based on the novel by Hermann Hesse. His jazz duo with American bassist Simon Mastri has taken them on several tours around the US and Europe. The first album of the Mastri-Le Cointre Duo, entitled “Thalassaki”, was recorded in the spring of 2017 and features originals, standards, and arrangements of folk music. After graduating in New York, Le Cointre resettled in the Netherlands where he composes, teaches, performs and records.
